Limited to 12 students.
Movement for Actors is for anyone from absolute beginners with no prior movement or dance training to rhythm masters getting back to basics. Tempo and rhythm is as integral a part of storytelling and the craft of acting as it is in life. In life every movement has a meaning of its own and a reason for occuring as well as its own tempo and rhythm. And all is based on the action being excuted and the circumstances under which it occurs. To learn how movement and physicality can enhance and support storytelling on stage or in film is one main goal of the class. Another is to improve the actor's awareness of their body and to strengthen their sense of balance and cordination abilities in its usage.
Good acting requires understanding how to use body language and phyical gestures to convey meaning and emotions. In this class the student will explore different movement styles and techniques, such as Laban, Suzuki, or Viewpoints in aiding them to use their bodies more effectively on stage or on camera. The class will include using exercises and games as a warm up to condition the body for performance; practicing ensemble movement sequences and/or choreography to create a cohesive group dynamic; making specific character choices for particular roles or scenes, and developing a physical vocabulary.
